The Lord commands us to care for others, but is this a job for the government? God urges Christian charity in all things, but it is up to the Christian to practice as an individual. The good works of others does not benefit us in the Kingdom of Heaven.
The abundance of Christian hospitals shows that Christians of all denominations take their duty to the poor and sick seriously. Make sure that your investments of both time and money support things that align with Christian teaching and where God leads you.
The question we must ask ourselves is whether the responsibility lies with the government or with the individual. We do not control the government, but we do vote for elected leaders to carry our will into law.
One thing remains certain. There will always be needy and poor amongst us, and it is every Christian’s duty to practice charity and love.
